Cheap Divorce in Ontario

What is a divorce?
The very first thing I try to explain when someone asks me how they can get a quick and affordable divorce is by explaining what a divorce is. A divorce in itself is simply a status change. When you are applying for a divorce, you are asking a judge to make an Order to change your status from married to divorce.
This sounds simple, right? Well, it depends. Like all legal issues, the devil is in the details. There can be significant implications of a divorce, and this is when cheap divorce lawyers are of significant help.
What are the implications of a divorce?
In Ontario, if a divorce is granted, there can be significant implications relating to equalization. If you obtain a divorce and do not make a claim for equalization within two (2) years of the divorce is granted, you will very likely be statute barred from making such a claim.
In addition to the issue of limitation periods, there may also be implications relating to tax, support and other legal issues. I will not go into detail on these issues right now, but it is important to consult with a cheap divorce lawyer to fully understand the issues that may arise when an affordable divorce in Toronto is sought.
Now, let’s turn to look at situations where it is possible to get a quick and cheap divorce.

How much does a divorce cost in Ontario?
This is a very common question among couples going through the divorce process. Divorce is actually relatively inexpensive so long as neither partner is contesting the divorce or the claims therein the documentation. There are aspects of divorce that can increase costs in a big way, including disagreements about child support, child custody, spousal support, and the division of property. If these aren’t points of contention, all that’s left to do is an author a divorce agreement, file it in court, and pay the divorce application fees.

When there is a disagreement, costs increase. A judge has to make a court ruling, and that takes time and the involvement of legal help.
